| Apparently Charles got nis nickname "Dude" because he was so tall (6
feet, 4 inches, which I guess is tall for the 1800's.) We were told
Charles was a bricklayer, but other than that we have little information
on him. The 1900 U.S. Census lists him as currently living in Washington,
DC.
