| We
have fallen heir to some family possessions of Charles Pasco and Harriet
Wannall. In a music book, which belonged to Charles we found a letter
written in his handwriting stating he was 89 when he wrote it in 1936.
Charles Pasco was raised by an aunt in Baltimore, MD, and reportedly was
named after his uncle. Although his father was born in Washington,
DC, apparently the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where Charles Pasco
worked as a clerk for S. Strauss & Co. He married "Hattie", a
school teacher, and in 1890 they lived at 4335 Ashland Avenue in St. Louis.
Charles was an accomplished musician (violinist, I believe) and performed
regularly in the St. Louis area. We will continue to gather more
information on Charles Pasco and Hattie as we examine and catalogue the
rest of the memorabilia we have received from the husband of his granddaughter.
In
May of 2009 we ran across some entries at familysearch.org that included
information from the 1880 U.S. Census, which listed Charles as 33 years
old that year, the son-in-law of the "Head of Household", James B. Hudson,
and working as a "Clerk in Drygoods." A second entry from that census
indicated he was age 32 (born in 1848), working as an "Entry Clerk Dry
Goods Store", and was himself the Head of Household. A third record
at familysearch.org gave us the date of his marrige to Harriet, reporting
they were wed Saint Louis, Missouri.
