| Matilda's husband, Edward Dade Smoot, was born in 1851 in Washington,
DC. His parents were Avery Edward Smoot (born September 15, 1805,
died April 24, 1866) and Emily Hunter Terrett Smoot (born circa 1815, date

Edward and Matilda were married in 1870. Concerning the Smoot
descendents, two gravesites in the Joseph F. Wannall plot at Glenwood Cemetery,
Washington, DC, are for children of Edward and Matilda. They are
Harry W. Smoot, interred August 6, 1881, at age 2 months, and Jeanette
M. Smoot, interred May 19, 1889, at age 15 years, 3 1/2 months. Of the
other two known children, we now have more information thanks to the nature
of the Internet and "surfing" genealogists from other family sites. See
