According to the North Carolina Death Records, 1983-1987, Ruth Wannall died in Morehead City near Carteret.  She was living near her sister, Doris Wannall Collins, who died 12 years later in the same town.  Ruth, known by most in the family as "Pinky", worked for a time in the Smith Hotel in Washington, DC, only two blocks from the White House, where she was a bookkeeper and, when needed, bouncer (according to relatives, she was "300 lbs. solid.")  Her mother, Alice, was a telephone operator at the Smith Hotel, and her brother, Wimpy (Charles Nicholas Wannall) was the doorman for about a year. Many close family members knew her only as "Pinky." It was reported that once a young niece or nephew wanted to know, "What is Aunt Pinky's real name?" We reveal it here. Sorry, Pinky.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  The Dogwood Memorial Cemetary is located off highway 17 in Maysville, Jones County, NC, near the Jones County/Onslow County line at the Whiteoak River. Reference www.rootsweb.com/~ncjones/dogwood.html.  Apparently there are several Wannalls buried there.

In February, 2004, we received over a dozen family photos from one of Ruth's nieces. One has been posted at the "Gallery Links" below. Others can be viewed in her mother Alice's Gallery Links page and in the Family Photo Album below.
